New online urban transport application may start operating in Luanda in the next few days. If confirmed, Luandenses will now have an app with services not available until now, such as multi-destination trips, one of the features that made this app a success in the markets in which it already operates.
With a presence in 19 countries around the world, YANGO is part of the Dutch technology giant Yandex and, according to comments on some discussion forums, Angola could be the next destination.
In countries where it already operates on our continent, such as Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Zambia, Yango stands out for the cutting-edge technology it uses to significantly reduce service prices. One of the factors that most distinguishes Yango from the applications that already exist in our market is the fact that the company has its own maps, which exempts it from paying Google or other companies for the rights to use the maps of the cities in which it operates. It’s not something minor. In fact, the use of geolocation maps “is the most expensive factor” in this type of business. Cheaper travel, new functions, greater convenience and service availability. These are Yango’s promises in its debut on the Angolan market.
The use of online applications to obtain transport in Luanda has become increasingly common and the possibility of Yango’s entry undoubtedly represents more advantages for the consumer in terms of quality and safety of this type of service. In addition to being able to share a specific route with family members, this application has a rating system that allows drivers with lower ratings to be identified, which may result in their exclusion from the application.
Opportunity for drivers
Unlike other applications that already operate in our market, Yango does not work directly with drivers, but rather with local partners – transport companies registered with Angolan legal entities.
The application’s technology and design make drivers’ lives easier by helping them save on fuel and optimize time and routes. The innovative function of “chain orders” and the intelligent distribution of orders, which will allow drivers to accept consecutive trips, contribute to this optimistic scenario.
More services and money per hour, this is the success formula that has already been tested in the 19 countries where the platform operates. According to the company’s calculations, a driver who uses the Yango application in continuous circulation reaches efficiency levels of 50 to 70% in attracting customers, much more than the 10% of conventional taxis.
Yango’s technology significantly reduces the time a driver has to wait to pick up the next customer. By efficiently calculating the best route and allowing the driver to accept another trip before finishing the current one, it significantly reduces the time the driver spends driving to meet customers. This functionality has a direct impact on fuel consumption, one of the biggest headaches for people who use this type of application for work.
If confirmed, Angola will be the sixth country in Africa for Yango, which already operates in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal and Zambia. International in nature, the company also operates in Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. As in other countries, in Angola the online service of the Yango platform will be provided by the Dutch registration company – MLU Europe BV
