WWE NXT New Year’s Evil 2024: Coverage and Results

US network a new episode of WWENXTagainst Vic Giuseppe Yes Booker T at the commentary table, live from the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. On this occasion we will have a new edition of New Year’s Evil, with two main matches and the final of the NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament. Plus, Tiffany Stratton and Fallon Henley will try to end their rivalry, once and for all, in a match where the loser becomes the winner’s servant for a day.

WWE NXT New Year’s Eve Evil Recap, January 2, 2024

  • Lyra Valkyria defeated Blair Davenport to retain the NXT Women’s Championship.
  • Tatum Paxley prevented Lola Vice from redeeming her contract as the winner of the NXT Breakout women’s tournament.

  • Carlito, Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro (LWO) defeated Drew Gulak, Myles Borne and Damon Kemp (No Quarter Catch Crew) in a tag team match.

  • Arianna Grace defeated Roxanne Perez by referee’s decision.

  • Fallon Henley defeated Tiffany Stratton in a I serve for a one day match.

  • Oba Femi defeated Riley Osborne in the finals of the NXT Breakout men’s tournament.

  • Trick Williams defeated Grayson Waller in a battle of Iron Survivors to retain his title opportunity in the evening’s main event.

The show begins with a promotional video for New Year’s Evil 2024, which looks back at tonight’s card.

NXT Women’s Championship match

Lyra Valkyria (c) vs. Blair Davenport

Alicia Taylor introduces the contestants before the referee rings the bell. Once the fight has already begun, Lyra and Blair observe each other briefly before starting a first test phase in which grappling, blocks and takedowns take place. Valkyria traps Davenport in a headshot. Blair tries to escape, but the Irishman won’t let him. The action goes all the way to one of the corners, where Blair uses the ropes to take down the champion. Davenport climbs to the top of the corner to hit a double stomp on Lyra’s back. 1..2..NO.

Blair begins a new phase of the fight, where the champion dominates. Davenport catches his rival in a headshot flush with canvas. Lyra carries the British woman on her shoulders to throw herself on her knees on the canvas and thus strike her head into the face of her enemy. Lyra performs a enziguri to bring down Blair. He avoids the champion’s next attack, but ends up receiving a suplex for a near failure. Davenport tries to kick Lyra, but she stops the attack and reverses it into a German suplex. 1..2..NO.

The action moves to the top of one of the corners. Blair performs at hawk arrow from the second string. Lyra ends up at ringside. Davenport chases her and, after catching her, throws her against the audience barrier. Blair grabs Lyra’s arms and delivers a knee directly to the champion’s face. He dodges this and the knee ends up hitting the announce table, which ends up with a hole. Davenport screams in pain. The action returns to the ring. Blair tries to finish off Lyra, but she avoids the attacks of her rival, who suffers a knee. A spinning kickfollowed by a variant of michinoku driverput an end to the fight.

STILL NXT Women’s Champion and Winner: Lyra Valkyria

Lola Vice He quickly bursts into the front row. Accompanied by a referee, she is determined to redeem her contract as the winner of the NXT Breakout women’s tournament. However, Tatum Paxley he jumps at her from the stands, starting an altercation that Elektra Lopez soon joins. Lyra launches herself at the Latinas, who end up retreating. Paxley smiles at Lyra, but Lyra wants nothing to do with her.

Kelly Kincaid reports Ilja Dragunov has not been medically cleared to fight tonight. That’s why the NXT Championship title match is officially on hold until the Russian fully recovers.

LWO (Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde) vs. No Quarter Catch Crew (Drew Gulak, Myles Borne and Damon Kemp)

Del Toro and Drew begin the fight as the crowd welcomes Carlito. Joaquin gets the upper hand and gets assistance from his partner to perform a springboard onto the NQCC leader. Damon, Borne and Gulak are thrown out of the ring by LWO before Carlito and Del Toro push Wilde like a bullet towards their rivals at ringside.

The action returns to the ring, where Gulak drops Wilde with a clothesline. Myles’ turn, who continues to punish Joaquin before handing him over to Kemp. He hits a neckbreaker for a near fall. The NQCC members continue to take turns, performing German suplexes on Joaquin. Wilde struggles to reach his corner, but his heels won’t let him. Damon catches Joaquin with an Ankle Lock. Carlito takes over.

Carlito comes in with everything, catching Myles and Damon with two clotheslines. Carlito tosses Drew into the air and hits a spinebuster on Kemp. 1..2..NO. The fight turns into chaos, with rapid exchanges of attacks until everyone ends up lying on the canvas. Wilde hits a corkscreek on Myles and Drew at ringside. Meanwhile, in the center of the ring, Damon gets kicked by Cruz. Kemp takes a backstab from Carlito before falling victim to a definitive 450 splash from Del Toro. 1..2..3.

Backstage, Trick Williams admits he’s disappointed he won’t be able to challenge for the NXT Championship tonight. However, he understands the reasons and wishes Ilja Dragunov the best, adding that he will be ready once the Russian has fully recovered. For his part, Carmelo Hayes does not agree with the situation, pointing out that last week it was more than clear that Dragunov would not be able to fight. At that moment Grayson Waller appears. He points out that Trick should be happy, since he avoided certain defeat tonight. Instead, he proposes to face the first Iron Survivor Challenge winner in history. Williams assures him that he has no interest in facing a clown like him, but Melo allows himself to be provoked, accepting the fight on his friend’s behalf, where he will put his title opportunity on the line. Waller leaves tremendously satisfied. Trick doesn’t seem happy about it.

We see a promotional video starring Riley Osborne, who acknowledges that tonight he will fight the biggest fight of his career. In front of him he will have a beast like Oba Femi, which makes him the underdog in the final. However, only victory will allow him to continue pursuing his dream: becoming a great European star in WWE.

Arianna Grace vs. Roxanne Perez

Grace grabs Roxy’s arm before carrying her down. Arianna holds out her hand. Perez refuses, but receives a slap in the face. Arianna then asks to kiss her hand, but Roxanne slaps her before lunging at her. Perez performs a crossbody on his rival, who takes refuge in one of the corners. Grace kicks Roxy in the stomach before using her ropes to punish her.

Grace hits Perez with the corner pads before hitting a suplex. 1..2..NO. Arianna catches Roxy in a crossface on the canvas. Roxanne breaks free by throwing her into the ropes, but Grace comes back and hits her with another kick. Arianna continues to punish Perez while she scolds her. Furious, Roxanne reacts. After several attacks, Perez hits a dropkick, followed by a running elbow. Arianna attacks Perez’s eyes in one of her corners before taking her to the center of the ring. Grace tries to end the fight, but Perez avoids it by performing Pop Rocks on her. 1..2..3.

Winner: Roxanne Perez

“Do you need help!” Arianna scolds him after the argument. Freaked out, Perez attacks her and traps her in a painful submission before several officers come to Grace’s rescue. For this reason the referee decides to change his decision.

Ava is interviewed backstage. Ava stresses that Ilja Dragunov’s health is the most important thing and that he will be able to defend the NXT Championship once he returns, whether against Trick Williams or Grayson Waller. As for her new role backstage, Ava notes that she heard NXT was constantly growing and Shaw Michaels needed an assistant. That’s why he volunteered for the position. She also ensures that she always has ideas and that these are greatly appreciated, which is why she will continue to fill this role throughout 2024.

The fight soon reaches ringside, where Fallon hits Tiffany hard. Stratton regains the advantage in the center of the ring. Fallon tries to hit Tiffany with a sucker punch, but Stratton stops her before throwing her into one of the poles. Tiffany grabs Henley and throws her at her apron before taunting her, assuring her that he will make her his servant.

The fight continues into the next commercial break. Stratton catches Fallon in a crossface on the canvas. Henley tries to get away from her, but Stratton knocks her to the floor before tossing her into the ropes, where she performs a hip attack. They both hit each other with a clothesline in unison to land on the floor. Both exchange attacks. Fallon lands a flurry of attacks, taking the former women’s champion to one of the corners.

The action moves briefly to the front. Back in, Fallon hits a crossbody off the top rope. 1…2…NO. Fallon hits a crucifix bomb. 1..2..NO. Tiffany responds with a spinebuster for a near fall. Stratton tries to use a metal chair to punish Fallon, but the referee tries to take it away. Fallon takes advantage of the situation to execute a Shinning Wizard. 1..2..3.

A smiling Fallon begins the walk backstage followed by her waitress.

Baron Corbin convinces Bron Breakker to team up for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic starting next week.

We see a promotional video starring Oba Femi, who reminds us that in his culture, the Nigerian one, strength is not venerated, it is respected. Oba assures that Riley Osborne will fall into the hands of the giant NXT.

Gigi Dolin and Cora Jade argue backstage after the former sits at Jade’s locker. They both face each other until the rest of the locker room intervenes to avoid an altercation.

Ridge Holland is interviewed backstage. Holland recalls his struggles with injuries, saying that, at the end of the day, he is a family man and a husband. Holland assures that he has only respect for Ilya Dragunov and that he wants her to heal. Holland reveals his desire to show NXT fans who he truly is without preconceived ideas.

NXT Men’s Breakout Tournament – Final

Riley Osborne vs. Oba Femi

Oba takes Riley to one of the corners, Osborne escapes his rival and performs a dropkick. Femi stops his rival’s offensive with a punch. Riley ducks an elbow, but gets knocked out of the ring. Femi chases him and catches him. Now it’s Osborne who expels the Nigerian from the ring. Riley finds himself on the apron, where a tremendous blow from his rival knocks him to the floor.

Oba dominates the fight during the next commercial break. Femi throws Riley into the air. Oba continues to punish Riley with several slams and a backbreaker. Osborne refuses to lose. Femi continues to hit Riley. He tries to recover, but the Nigerian’s tenacity surpasses that of the Chase U student. Oba holds Riley in a bear hug. Osborne screams in pain, but refuses to give up.

Thea Hail and Jacy Jayne cheer on their teammate from the stands. A new backbreaker weakens Osborne even more. Femi gets Osborne back in a bear hug. Riley gets rid of the Nigerian, but he quickly returns to the fray with a hard elbow. However, Osborne dodges a charge. Femi hits one of the cornerbacks. Oba tries to fight back, but Riley hits a hurricanrana, a dropkick and a standing shooting star press. 1..2..NO.

The action moves to the forecourt. Riley kicks Oba and goes up to one of the corners to launch himself into Oba with a shooting star press. Oba receives it with his knees. Next, he performs a wave of attacks, finishing with a tremendous power bomb. 1…2…3.

Winner: OBA FEMI

OTM sends a message to the Family in a video recorded on the street. Bronco Nima, Lucien Price and SCRYPTS promise to become the new NXT Couples Champions next week.

In a backstage interview, Kiana James emphasizes that in Izzi Dame she has found a loyal friend and someone she will guide to stardom in NXT.

Backstage, Trick Williams chastises Carmelo Hayes for putting his starting opportunity on the line tonight without consulting him. Melo points out that he shouldn’t worry, since he is sure to beat Grayson Waller. Moreover, it will be in his corner. Trick tells him that he won’t be, because he wants to do it alone. Hayes accepts his partner’s decision, albeit not willingly.

Backstage, several teams officially form for the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic starting next week: Duke Hudson and Riley Osborne, and Axiom and Nathan Frazer.

Joe Gacy surprises the family by emerging from the trunk of his car shortly after the Tag Team Champions respond to OTM’s message and introduce Rizzo.

Battle of the Iron Survivors

Grayson Waller vs. Trick Williams

Waller catches Trick getting chants from the audience. Grayson hits a suplex. Trick responds with two slams, followed by a dropkick and a third slam. Williams tries to continue his offense, but Grayson flees to ringside. Waller tries to surprise him, but Trick takes him to the crowd barrier, where he performs a tremendous chop before throwing him over the commentary table.

The action returns to the inside of the ring, where Waller regains control of the fight. Trick is thrown out of the ring. Waller follows him to hit a clothesline. Back in the ring, Grayson continues to punish Trick. Waller goes for a suplex, but Trick finally gets it. Williams throws a barrage of punches on Waller in one of the corners.

Waller lands a jab to the back of Trick’s head. 1..2..NO. Grayson applies a painful submission hold on one of the corners before taking her to the center of the ring. Waller applies a single-leg Boston Crab on Trick, who crawls to the ropes to free himself. Waller smiles before approaching his rival to mock him. “You’re not on my level. You don’t deserve to be here!”, Waller scolds him. Trick responds with a punch that knocks him to the ground.

The action continues. Grayson counterattacks and tries to end the bout with his finalist, but Williams stops him with a precise punch. Williams hits a uranage from the second rope. 1..2..NO. Waller avoids defeat by putting his foot on the ropes. Waller manages to hit Trick against the ropes before leaving the ring to execute his finishing move. 1..2..NO. Trick responds with a neckbreaker. Waller escapes to ringside. Carmelo Hayes bursts into the ring to berate the referee. Trick approaches his friend to confront him. Meanwhile, Kevin Owens appears out of nowhere and punches Waller, who falls to the ground. The KO brings him back to the ring, where Williams ends the fight with a running knee. 1..2..3.
