Kuti Union Parishad (UP) election of Kasba Upazila in Brahmanbaria has been suspended midway due to wrong symbol on the ballot paper.
Kasba Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Muhammad Shahriar Mukta confirmed the postponement of the election for the post of chairman on Sunday (April 28).
According to investigation, 9 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman, 13 candidates for the post of reserved women member and 35 candidates for the post of general member. Voting started in 11 centers from 8 am on Sunday. Around noon, chairman candidate Yusuf Ahmed could see his symbol autorickshaw replaced by a pedal-powered three-wheeler rickshaw symbol on the ballot paper. His voters were embarrassed by it. Around 1 pm, he made a written complaint to the Election Returning Officer. The Returning Officer informed the Election Commission about the complaint. Later, the commission decided to postpone the election for the post of chairman.
In this regard, Muhammad Shahriar Muktar told Jago News that the commission has postponed the election for the post of chairman due to problems related to symbols on the ballot papers. Everyone will be informed about the next steps in this regard.
Total voters in this union of Kasba upazila are 33 thousand 435 people. Among them, 17 thousand 776 male voters and 15 thousand 659 female voters.
