Writer Nour Eken presents “The First Summer”

Yesterday, Thursday, at the library of the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat, writer Nour Eken presented her first book, entitled “The First Summer,” published by “Maha Editions.”

In this work, which takes the reader back to the 1980s when “life was monotonous and boredom was not a negative thing,” the author, who is drawn to this era by nostalgia, explains that she placed women’s destinies in their context of apathy and teenage freedom.

On this occasion, the writer said: “I created a world that is like a puzzle,” with real and imaginary characters, noting that she is happy to have been able to share with the audience “a time period that many young people today do not know.”

Thus, the characters of Nora, Laila, and Rahma, and other main or secondary characters in the book “The First Summer”, stand out with their sensitivity and amazing destinies, and immerse the reader in a unique world, where minds are constantly drawn to deciphering its multiple messages.

Written in a smooth style, this work is characterised by its raising of social and humanitarian issues that are still relevant, presented in moving dialogues and in a “semi-theatrical” style, which reflects literary precision in terms of the tone used and logical thinking in order to highlight the importance of certain topics.

The author evokes harsh prejudices and provides vivid testimonies, armed with innovative anthropological and sociological tools to deliver powerful and clear messages that transcend cultural boundaries to immerse themselves brilliantly in current daily life.

Without making value judgments, the author prompts her readers to think and engages them through an engaging narrative, where thought is constantly stimulated by her literary creativity and sense of humor.

The writer Nour Eken, whose second volume is currently being corrected, considers writing “a form of blessing,” noting that her book is part of a series whose continuity will depend on the passion of readers.

A celebration of the joy of life and cultural diversity, The First Summer is a hopeful work whose short paragraphs make it a must-read.
