Wreckage of ‘Mi-8’ type firefighting helicopter found at depth of 34 meters

ADANA – The wreckage of the helicopter that crashed into a dam in the Kozan district of Adana was reached by the Gendarmerie Search and Rescue and Gendarmerie Underwater Search and Rescue Teams that came to the region from Ankara and Adana. The wreckage is planned to be removed from the dam tomorrow.

It broke out around 16:00 on Friday in Kızlarsekisi Neighborhood of Kozan district. Upon notification, many firefighting teams were dispatched to the area. The firefighting helicopter sent for air intervention crashed for an unknown reason while taking water from Gökdere Dam on Göksu Stream. It was reported that the five-person crew, 3 Russians and 2 Turkish, in the helicopter were rescued by villagers from the dam where it crashed. No one was injured in the incident.

Helicopter wreckage found

Today, JAK and SAK teams from Ankara and Adana arrived at the wreckage of the “Mi-8” type firefighting helicopter at a depth of 34 meters with an underwater vehicle. The teams left the area after scanning the area and the wreckage is planned to be removed from the water tomorrow.

Ahmet Özcan, one of the village residents, said that the teams were working hard to reach the debris.
