World Health: Half of Sudan’s population is in urgent need of humanitarian aid

Sudan – The Director of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, confirmed on Saturday that half of Sudan’s population is in “urgent need” of humanitarian aid.

The UN official stated on the “X” platform that “half of Sudan’s population is in dire need of humanitarian aid.” “The health needs are enormous, with about 3.4 million children suffering from malnutrition.”

He explained that despite the great need in Sudan, “the horrific crisis does not receive sufficient international attention.”

He added: “Millions of people, especially in Darfur states, are still deprived of direct humanitarian assistance.”

He appealed to the Director of World Health to provide “safe access to all areas affected by the conflict, so that the organization and its partners can protect the most vulnerable groups” in the country.

According to the United Nations, about 14,000 people lost their lives, and 8 million others were displaced as a result of clashes between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, where the “largest displacement” in the world occurred, and the country may witness “the largest hunger crisis” in the world.

According to the latest World Food Program report dated February 5, 19 million Sudanese children cannot go to school due to the civil war, 25 million people, equivalent to almost half the population, need assistance, and nearly 18 million Sudanese suffer from a lack of Acute food security, 5 million of whom suffer from hunger.

Despite the Security Council’s decision to halt hostilities during the month of Ramadan in Sudan, clashes continue between the warring parties.
