Journalists living in Chile now have the opportunity to enroll in the workshop “Solutions Journalism for Climate Stories,” a collaborative learning initiative focused on solutions journalism and the fair energy transition.
This workshop, organized by Climate Tracker and FES Chile – Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, will be held in person in Santiago de Chile and is aimed at journalists interested in improving their coverage of climate action and the energy transition.
During this intensive two-day workshop, participants will acquire new knowledge and hone their skills in solutions journalism, a discipline that is increasingly in demand in the coverage of environmental issues. They will also have the opportunity to apply for one of six financial grants available to develop a report with the mentorship of Climate Tracker.
Workshop Details:
● Location: Providencia, Santiago de Chile (the exact address will be shared with those selected).
● Date: August 13 and 14, 2024.
● Hours: 9 am to 6 pm (approximately).
Workshop Itinerary:
● Day 1: The day begins with a welcome and introductions, followed by sessions on climate narratives, disinformation and the fundamentals of solutions journalism. The afternoon includes an analysis of nature-based solutions and practical exercises to identify pillars of solutions journalism.
● Day 2: Exploring narratives and fair energy solutions in Latin America. The afternoon is devoted to practical workshops on tools and the preparation of journalistic pitches, culminating in a reflective closing session on the lessons learned.
The workshop includes lunch and refreshments provided by Climate Tracker and FES Chile. Selected participants will be contacted to inquire about their dietary preferences.
Workshop Phases:
1. Phase 1: A total of 30 journalists will be selected to participate in the in-person workshop. During the event, they will receive training from specialists and experienced journalists on climate change issues.
2. Phase 2: At the end of the workshop, participants must submit a proposal for a journalistic story. Climate Tracker will select six proposals, whose authors will receive editorial support and personalized mentoring to develop their reports between August and October 2024. In addition, those selected will receive a financial incentive of 250,000 Chilean pesos and the opportunity to disseminate their work through the Environmental Media Network.
