The gender-sensitive conflict analysis report was launched recently in Ankorondrano. This report entitled “When silences speak” from the United Nations Peace Building Fund (PBF) highlights the voices and roles of women in the face of conflict, violence, insecurity and inequalities. It raises the question of justice and social cohesion: how to build a positive, lasting and equitable peace with women who constitute more than half of the population. Young girls and women face tensions and conflicts differently from men. This report, based on a documentary review and local consultations in 5 regions, makes programmatic and thematic recommendations to better take into consideration the specific experiences of young girls and women. This is the first analysis of this type in Madagascar. 28 young researchers contributed in particular by leading consultations in the Alaotra Mangoro, Analamanga, Atsimo-Andrefana, Atsimo-Atsinanana and Menabe regions.
Course
This event, dedicated to the launch of this report, was also marked by the launch of two courses. This is the Conflict Sensitivity course which includes five thematic modules in Malagasy and French. Born from an initiative led by the PBF, in collaboration with UNSSC (United Nations System Staff College). The Climate, Peace, Security course, the result of a collaboration between UNDP and UNSSC, is particularly relevant in the global context and in Madagascar, one of the five countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The course will provide practical tools to understand the interactions between climate change, peace and security, analyze conflict risks, design programs using an integrated climate–peace–security approach and contribute to interventions that strengthen resilience and social cohesion.
