Extraordinary presidential elections were held in Azerbaijan yesterday. According to the results of the elections, the current president Ilham Aliyev won with 92.05 percent of votes. After the elections, there are various opinions about whether other candidates will be represented in the newly formed government or not.
Publika.az It is reported that MP Fazil Mustafa, who was a candidate from the Great Organization Party, spoke to “Yenisabah.az” about the mentioned issue. He said that such a proposal would not be suitable: “Thankfully, Azerbaijan was able to conclude this process in peace and without turmoil. As a result of democratic and transparent elections, President Ilham Aliyev won the victory he deserved. We currently do not have any coalition government model, on the other hand, it is not appropriate to have a coalition proposal. Because the president has his own team and carries out executive activities with this team. We are party leaders and our party has a different ideological line. Therefore, we are represented in the Milli Majlis and have certain authority.”
Fazil Mustafa noted that there is no logical explanation for the invitation of the opposition parties to the new government team: “The functions of the executive body and the legislative body are completely different. Members of the New Azerbaijan Party in the parliament and neutral deputies may be invited to such a team. This has practically shown itself before. But I don’t see a logical explanation for inviting other opposition parties. Because this does not correspond to the team principle. If there is a coalition government option in the future, then it is possible to enter that government and act as a party.”
