Juventus had the upper hand in the first minutes of the match, without however creating any significant problems in the defense of Eindhoven.
Weah was active on the right side. He worked with Gonzalez in the 4th minute, but Benitez shot away. In the 7th minute, the American – who played as a right-winger – turned into the area but the Dutch goalkeeper kicked the ball away. Benitez also saved Nico Gonzalez’s shot in the 16th minute.
The Dutch were playing conservatively, but they paid for it in the 34th minute. Juventus continued to press high and Gatti took possession of the ball after Ferman was wrongly cleared. The Italian stopper made the turn in the heart of the area, Kolo Muani could not beat Benitez, but in the development of the phase Gatti chested Makeni and he with a “lightning” opened the scoring for the “Bianconeri”.
Gonzalez’s header in the 40th minute ended up in the arms of Benitez, while a shot by Souten from the Eindhoven side went wide, in the last good moment of the first half.
Juventus had the upper hand at the start of the second 45 minutes and threatened for the first time in the 51st minute, when after Weah’s cross from the right, Ebangula caught the shot, but Benitez kicked it for a corner.
Against the flow of the game and essentially in their first good moment of the game, Eindhoven managed to find the equalizer through Perisic (56′). Lang evaded three Juventus players, found space to shoot, the ball went against Locatelli, Perisic turned receiver, faked Kelly and sent the ball into Di Gregorio’s left corner for 1-1. The Italians complained about Lang’s handball early in the period, but the goal was checked by VAR and counted as normal.
Juve were surprised by the unexpected equalizer and saw time running out without being able to threaten the home of the Dutch. Empangula, however, gave the solution to the “Great Lady”. In the 82nd minute, after Conceição’s good action from the right and Benitez’s save, the Belgian striker took the rebound and scored 2-1 for Juventus from close range.
The “Bianconeri” took the victory and together with the lead for the qualification to the “16” of the Champions League, in view of the rematch of the Netherlands.
PLAYER KEY:
It was Embangula who made the difference. Juventus were taken by surprise after the unexpected goal conceded by Perisic in the 56th minute. She watched time go by without really threatening the Dutch, until the Belgian striker came in the 82nd minute to give her the win. He came on as a substitute in the 46th minute and was the one who decided the final result.
CHANGE THE MATCH:
Empangula may have decided the final result, but Perisic’s goal (56′) changed the game. Up until that point, Eindhoven had no suspicion of a phase. It was essentially her first good moment, which turned into a goal. He brought her back into the game, however, in the final she was bowed out by the superior Juventus.
THE WORST ON THE FIELD:
There was no negative protagonist in the game. If anything made a negative impression, it was the conservative play of Eindhoven who settled for a passive role and in the finale it paid off, with Ebangula scoring the winning goal for Juventus.
THE REFEREE:
The most difficult phase that Daniel Siebert had to manage was the equalizer against Eindhoven. Juventus asked for Lang’s hand at the start of the period but the German referee ruled the ball hit a shoulder, with VAR agreeing with him, and so the Dutch goal counted as normal.
VAR-GIVING:
VAR checked Eindhoven’s equalizer for Lang’s hand early in the period. He didn’t see any foul play so he didn’t have to call on Siebert to check the goal as well.
