With the announcement of the curatorial theme, the SACO Biennial unveiled its 2024-2025 version

With the delivery of the first copies that compile the activities, experiences and exhibitions, together with the premiere of the documentary of the 2022-2023 edition, the SACO Cultural Corporation announced the results of the SACO1.1 Biennial called Golpe and the curatorial theme of its next edition.

The event was attended by regional authorities, collaborators, representatives of cultural spaces and international organizations, mediators, students and the general public.

Both the book and the documentary compile what was done during the preparation and execution of Biennial 1.1, whose exhibition event brought together more than 60 thousand visits to the 15 exhibition spaces deployed by Antofagasta, an edition in which 26 artists from various countries of the region participated. world, who carried out residencies and more than a dozen pedagogical activities in various communities in the region.

The publication of both materials marked the closing of SACO1.1 and gave way to SACO1.2, which under the curatorial theme Dark Ecosystems, begins to prepare through work that will extend until 2025, and which will feature its traditional event exhibition during June and September of that year.

“We are going to take a significant turn towards the world of science, trying to observe the invisible and delve into the processes of resistance from which we can learn, from the world of biology or the nature that surrounds us. There is still so much to discover, not only in the purely scientific context, but also in a human and artistic dimension,” said the director of the SACO Biennial, Dagmara Wyskiel.

He added that “we are convinced that, with this theme, so present in the north of Chile, we can inspire new generations and connect them increasingly with the world of art and science. “We are happy to begin the twelfth edition of SACO focused on these intersections, to reflect on the limits of different kinds and how we can overcome them.”

During the day, various figures from the world of science and art delivered their opinions on the theme of the biennial, including the prominent biologist and scientific disseminator, Gladys Hayashida; the person in charge of regional relations for ESO in Chile, Bárbara Núñez; and the artist, researcher and curator, Pedro Donoso; who were expectant about the artistic proposals that will arrive in the next biennial based on the union of both worlds, highlighting the importance of putting at the center a theme with a strong local emphasis in an event like the biennial.
