With Syrian participation, the fifth World Media Summit kicks off in Guangzhou, China

Today, the 5th World Media Summit kicked off in Guangzhou, China, under the slogan (Enhancing Global Trust and Strengthening Media), with the participation of Syria, represented by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), and 450 delegates from 100 countries.

During the opening, speeches were delivered by Fu Hua, Director of Xinhua News Agency, CEO of the World Media Summit, Editor-in-Chief of Xinhua News Agency, and participants in the summit, stressing the importance of the summit, which has been an opportunity to enhance and deepen cooperation between the media since its establishment five years ago.

In their speeches, they pointed out that what is required of the media today more than ever is to deliver the correct information to the largest segment of the world to create a better world, create a bridge to transform differences into peace, and achieve more certainty and positivity.

The speeches focused on the positive results achieved in previous years as a result of cooperation between international news agencies, which was reflected in expanding participation in the summit to reach a higher level of global media cooperation.

The speeches called for enhancing the use of technical developments and adapting technological achievements in the service of the media, in a way that contributes to delivering correct information easily and quickly to the recipient, confronting the spread of fake news, and exchanging humanitarian assistance during news coverage in disaster and war zones.

The summit will discuss enhancing global trust, promoting media development, the role of media in promoting human development and security, media response to new markets in the digital age, and media cooperation around the world for a better future, in addition to a number of media issues, most notably dealing with the emergence of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, combating fake news that poses a challenge to journalistic ethics, and enhancing the protection of journalists covering wars and natural disasters.

The World Media Summit, which is an important, high-level platform for media exchange and coordination, full of challenges and opportunities, is committed to enhancing cooperation and development among media institutions. Since its inception, it has succeeded in organizing global excellence awards and provided many training programs for media professionals around the world.
