The director of the National Police in Itapúa, Juan Agüero, said on 1020 AM that with the Government’s decision to strengthen security in Alto Paraná, criminal groups have begun to move south, affecting the department.
The uniformed man said that representatives of the public ministries of Mercosur meet in Encarnación, in order to generate strategies to fight organized crime, which has become a scourge for all countries in the region.
“From Itapúa we face a new challenge, because given the strengthening of security in Alto Paraná, criminal groups have been moving towards the department,” he said.
Agüero stated that at the meeting of Mercosur prosecutors “all these issues will be discussed. We as Police, are auxiliaries of Justice.”
He stated that, in order to guarantee the safety of all participants in the event, the presence of special forces, anti-kidnapping personnel and other important assets of the police forces was ensured.
