Houten – The temperature is dropping and there will be regular wintry precipitation next week. There’s a good chance there will be a white landscape on Monday. Numerous snowfalls will pass and locally it may become white, especially in the hinterland. The maximum temperature will be between 2 and 5 degrees and will freeze slightly during the night. There will also be some wintry showers Tuesday and Thursday. The forecast for Wednesday is still quite uncertain, according to Weeronline.
During Blue Monday, numerous snowfalls from the North Sea fall on the country. Especially inland, it can locally turn white during heavier snowfalls. If snow remains on the road, there is a risk of slippery conditions.
In coastal areas, the wind from the sea causes temperatures to remain too high for heavy snowfall. Wind often mixes precipitation with rain or hail. Between showers there will be 2 or 3 degrees inland and 4 or 5 degrees near the sea. During a heavy snowfall, the temperature is around freezing. The temperature is the lowest on the Limburg hills, which means that the possibility of maintaining a white landscape is greatest here. On the Hoge Veluwe the snow cover can last even longer.
The north-west wind, moderate to maritime, sometimes (quite) strong, makes it feel a little colder. Large-scale light frosts will occur overnight into Tuesday. Roads without asphalt can become slippery due to frost.
Wednesday: forecast still quite uncertain, possible snowfall in the southern half
There will be some wintry showers in the northern half on Tuesday, but not as many wintry showers as Monday. In the south the day will be almost dry with alternating cloudy fields and some stretches of sunshine. In the afternoon snowfall will move out of the country towards the north. The temperature will be between 2 and 4 degrees with mainly moderate winds from west to southwest.
The weather forecast for Wednesday is still decidedly uncertain. A precipitation zone is moving northeastward from the Atlantic Ocean across France, but the exact pattern of this precipitation zone is still uncertain. The border between the sweet air in the south and the cold air in the north could be exactly above our country. In this case, the south or southern half of our country will experience rainfall. In the Netherlands the air is cold, so precipitation falls in the form of snow. There are also scenarios in which the precipitation zone moves southwards from our country. In the latter scenario, the chances of snow are gone. Light frosts will still occur during the night between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday and Friday often dry with sunny periods
Snow may fall first Thursday morning, but it will become drier as the day progresses and the sun will break out regularly. Friday and Saturday promise to be two beautiful winter days with lots of sunny periods. There may be local winter precipitation on Friday, but the weather will be mostly dry these days. There will be 1 to 3 degrees on Friday and a maximum of 4 degrees on Sunday. It freezes slightly at night. From Sunday the forecast becomes much more uncertain.
