Will not allow enemies to target friendship and peace in region: Iran

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian said on Sunday that Iran strongly believes that security can be achieved by being a good neighbor.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian said, “We will not allow enemies to target friendship, peace and security in the region.”

His statement came at a time when armed men killed at least nine Pakistani citizens and injured three others in the suburbs of Sarawan city in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan a day ago (i.e. Saturday).

On the other hand, according to the Pakistani Foreign Office, the Iranian Foreign Minister is arriving in Pakistan on the night of Sunday (January 28, 2024).

His visit is of utmost importance in the recent tense situation between the two countries.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed in a conversation with Arab News on Sunday that he (Iranian Foreign Minister) will arrive in Islamabad tonight on a visit to Pakistan.

According to Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, he is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of Pakistan’s Caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani.

According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, during the visit, the Iranian Foreign Minister will hold meetings with his Pakistani counterpart and other Pakistani officials, in which matters of mutual interest will be discussed.

Relations between Iran and Pakistan have seen ups and downs in recent times.

On January 16, Pakistan’s foreign office said Iran violated its airspace, killing two children and injuring three others.

On this, Pakistan announced to recall its ambassador from Iran, while on Thursday, January 18, Pakistan also announced to target terrorist hideouts inside Iran.

Later, the situation between the two neighboring countries improved when Pakistan’s foreign ministry said in a statement on January 22 that after a telephone conversation between the foreign ministers of the two countries, it was decided that the ambassadors of Islamabad and Tehran 26 Will be able to resume work from January.

Now on Saturday, Pakistan has demanded an investigation from Iran on the killing of nine Pakistanis. Iran condemned the incident and said it was being investigated.
