63-year-old Ivan Yaremchuk, a former football player of “Dynamo” Kyiv, is in a Polish prison.
Publika.az reports that his family has not contacted him for more than 10 days.
Ivan’s brother Mikhail Yaremchuk, who lives with him in Belgium, confirmed this information to “Champion”:
“Vanya flew from Belgium to Poland on October 10, a day before the Ukraine-Azerbaijan game. He was traveling on football business – usually before the national team games, a veterans game is organized, in which my brother traditionally participates. But at the Krakow airport, Ivan was unexpectedly arrested by the police.
He called me and said that he was detained by the police. But I was in a language course at the time and I couldn’t speak. When I went out and called again, I couldn’t get through to my brother. I contacted the guys who organize the veterans games and they started looking into the situation. At the airport, they received confirmation that Ivan had been arrested by the police. His case was transferred to the prosecutor’s office, the 3rd department. The case will be heard in the Krakow court.”
All this time, Yaremchuk’s relatives could not contact Ivan.
“More than 10 days have passed,” Mikhail worried.
“I call every day, but there is no connection. My sister also calls at the same time – she is next to me, listens to our conversation. We do not know why Vanya was arrested. Our friends living in Poland called the police and said that it was allegedly connected with Ivan’s stay in the Czech Republic.
My brother actually lived in Prague for 18 months before moving to Belgium. But we don’t know what exactly he was accused of, because Vanya previously traveled around Europe and participated in veterans’ games without any problems. We want to help Ivan and are currently looking for a lawyer who can deal with my brother’s case.”
