Shukr served as a senior adviser to Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah at the time of his death in an IDF raid on Tuesday (7/30/2024) in southern Beirut.
The IDF said its fighter jets “eliminated the most senior military commander of the Hezbollah (Shukr) organization” in the Lebanese capital.
Here’s why the Israeli military said it killed Shukr:
1. Shukr is Nasrallah’s Right Hand
The IDF said Shukr, who joined Hezbollah in 1985, rose through the ranks of the group to gain a position close to its leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
“He planned Hezbollah attacks for 30 years and his hands are stained with the blood of Israelis, Americans, French and others,” the IDF said.
The Israeli military added that within Hezbollah, Shukr was a “senior adviser for strategic affairs and wartime operations.”
2. Planner of Rocket and Drone Attacks on Israel
Shukr is considered to be the planner of attacks on Israel with rocket and drone attacks.
The IDF alleged that for the past ten months, since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7, 2023, Shukr has “organized rocket and drone attacks” against Israel.
The attacks, according to the Israeli occupation regime, have forced “60,000 civilians in northern Israel to flee their homes.”
