Why are V-League teams not interested in My Dinh Stadium?

In addition, this amount of money is not small if the teams can advance deeply in the AFC Cup – an arena that is considered suitable for Vietnamese football.

At V.League, when the organization of the national tournament is somewhat simpler (not applying strict regulations like an international tournament under the supervision of AFC), the amount of money teams have to pay to rent the field for 1 match may be lower than 800 million VND.

However, if including the V-League and National Cup arenas, a team will play no less than 14 matches at home. The amount of rent for the stadium is now increasing exponentially.

In addition, the team that chooses My Dinh Stadium as their home field still has to take care of the entire turf, which is not cheap.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Ho – Director of My Dinh National Sports Complex said: “Regarding football teams renting stadiums, we need to clearly determine whether the contract is for 1 year, 1 month or 1 match, and how much it costs. Fees will vary.

The Complex must invite appraisal, bidding and auction units to work. After appraisal, bidding, auction is completed, then lease. It is important for the appraiser to decide how much the yard will cost, in which the total amount of money collected must be at least enough to cover expenses.

We have to pay value-added tax, population tax, land tax (several hundred million), property tax, electricity and water…, from which we calculate the profitable figure. Only then can we decide on the official amount to offer to the lessees.”

Mr. Ho also said that currently, no team has contacted the National Sports Complex to propose renting My Dinh Stadium.

However, there is another reason why football teams do not want to choose My Dinh stadium. Currently, the national stadium has a capacity of 40,000 spectators. Of course, no team, no match in the V.League can attract that many fans to the stadium. Many empty spaces appearing in the stands are not the image that teams want. The Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports is the unit that decides which two teams will compete at Hang Day Stadium next season. The answer will be given before the 2023-2024 season ends. The leaving team will likely choose Ha Dong Stadium as their home field.
