After two weeks since Disney released the trailer for Moana 2, there is already news for its live action.
Today the face of the young adventurer in real life was revealed. Disney introduced Catherine Laga’aiawho will star, along with Dwayne Johnsonthe long-awaited movie.
Laga’aia is a 17-year-old girl from Sydney, Australia, and declared that she was excited to bring Moana to life: “I am very excited to embrace this character because Moana is one of my favorites,” according to the American media Variety.
She also emphasized how proud she is to play this role: “I am honored to have the opportunity to celebrate Samoa and all the people of the Pacific Islands, and represent young girls who look like me.”
Dwayne Johnson “The Rock” reprises his role as the demigod Maui.
The same site notes that also joining Laga’aia and Johnson in the cast is New Zealander John Tui of Auckland as Moana’s father, Chief Tui; Samoan-New Zealand actor Frankie Adams as Sina, Moana’s mother; and New Zealand native Rena Owen as the revered Grandma Tala.
Filming of the live action Moana is scheduled to begin this summer.
The film will be released on July 10, 2026.
Thomas Kail will direct the film, meanwhile the production will feature Dwayne Johnson himself, Dany García and Hiram García.
