Since last December 7, when Dainis Kazakevičs left his post as coach of the Latvian national football team, the national team has been without a coach. The time is approaching to appoint the new coach of the national team. At the moment three specialists remain among the candidates and none of them is a national coach. Who will be entrusted with the leadership of the Latvian national team?
The LFF board of directors decided to release Kazakevic with a majority vote of eight to one. With him at the helm, the national team played in the 2020 World Cup qualifiers, the UEFA Nations League and the 2024 European Championship selections. Under Kazakevič’s guidance, the national team achieved 11 victories in 41 matches, drew 12 times and conceded 18 defeats.
“I hope that it will be possible to fit into the framework and find a coach by January 31, preparing information on candidates and evaluating them. The first matches will be in March,” said Latvian Football Federation (LFF) president Vadims Lashenko. December revealing that there is a willingness to sign a one-year contract with the possibility of extension.
TVNET understands that the LFF initially had eight candidates in its sights, but has now shortlisted three, one of whom is a well-known Latvian football specialist. It would probably cost the federation less than a coach from a south-central European country and one from a central European country.
