Who is Michel Patrick Boisvert, new Prime Minister of Haiti?

A decree appoints Michel Patrick Boisvert as interim prime minister of Haiti, pending the Transitional Presidential Council that was installed this Thursday, to form a new Government.

Before his appointment in the document, dated April 24 and made public this Thursday, the new interim Prime Minister Michel Patrick Boisvert He was Minister of Economy and Finance from March 5, 2020 to dateas part of the Government led by Ariel Henry, who resigned from his position the day before.

Michel Patrick Boisvert has developed a long and distinguished career at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), where he worked for many years, first in the Petit-Goâve District Office, where he was born, as Western Departmental Director, from 1995 to 2010 .

He was then appointed director of the Tax Inspection, a position he held from 2010 to 2018, in an increasingly tumultuous political context, reaching the General Directorate of the institution from 2018 to 2020.

Before starting his career at the Ministry of Economy, Boisvert was hired in the Economic Studies Directorate of the Bank of the Republic of Haiti (BRH), between 1991 and 1995.

Regarding his training, he has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting Sciences from the University of Port-au-Prince (IGC) and a diploma in Economics from the Faculty of Law and Economics (FDSE) of the State University of Haiti (UEH), he also has a master’s degree in economic policy management from the University of Auvergne (France) at the Center for Studies and Research on International Development (CERDI).

Boisvert will hold office until the Transitional Presidential Council, whose members were sworn in this Thursday, elects a new prime minister. who will be in charge of forming a new Government that will lead the country towards holding elections with a view to the investiture of a new president on February 7, 2026.

The installation of the Presidential Transition Council is the first step towards the creation of new institutions that help overcome the crisis that Haiti is suffering, at least at the institutional level, but for the moment it has not been possible to reduce the levels of violence carried out by the gangs. , waiting for the arrival of the multinational mission authorized by the UN, which has not yet seen the light of day due to the lack of international financing.
