March 8 is International Women’s Day. The Economist has made a list of the richest countries based on several indicators based on this day. Basically everything from labor force participation and pay to maternity leave and participation in politics has been taken into account. This list is made from 29 richest countries.

The Nordic countries always rank well in the list. For the second time, Iceland is in the first place. On the other hand, South Korea, Japan and Türkiye are in a bad position in this regard. Among rich countries, women in these three countries face the most obstacles in the workplace. However, Australia and Poland have improved in the list. The two countries have advanced five steps in the list.

Interestingly, in almost every country, the number of women graduating from universities is higher than that of men. But their participation in the workplace is less. The problem is most pronounced in Turkey, Greece and Italy, where only two-thirds of adults have it
Women working. In these rich countries, women earn about 12 percent less than men.

However, by analyzing some indicators, it has been seen that women have progressed in business. The role of women in senior management positions in OECD countries has increased to 34.2 percent from 33.8 percent in the previous year. Sweden, USA and Poland are in the best position in this regard. In these three countries, women hold 40 percent of the highest-level positions. In this regard, Japan and South Korea are significantly behind. Women’s participation in high-level jobs is 15 and 16 percent in both countries, respectively.

The share of women on company boards in OECD countries stands at 33 percent. In 2026, women will cover 40 percent of the European Union.

Iceland, Sweden, Norway and Finland have the best positions in the politics index. 45 percent of the parliament members of these countries are women. In this regard, the position of women in South Korea and Japan is below 20 percent.
