Where is the liquidity? The Libyans embarrass Al-Dabaiba at Tripoli Stadium, amid criticism of the high costs

Criticism of the exorbitant costs spent on the stadium’s reopening ceremony and hosting veteran players for tens of thousands of dollars without taking into account the needs of the citizen.

According to a video clip that was widely circulated on social media, the stadium’s stands shook as the fans chanted in the face of the bear, “Where is the cash?”, expressing their anger at the worsening living conditions, delayed salaries, and lack of funds, days before the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

The Tripoli International Stadium was reopened on Friday after years of closing its doors to sports fans. A large celebration was held on the occasion of the opening and an exhibition match in which the stars of Libya and Africa and the old stars of the Italian club AC Milan participated.

Maintenance work for Tripoli Stadium began in 2021 and continued for about 3 years, in maintenance that is the first of its kind since its establishment in 1970.

Maintenance work at Tripoli Stadium included installing plastic seats to accommodate 45,000 spectators, while it had been constructed with concrete seats to accommodate about 65,000 spectators.

A hybrid turf between artificial and natural grass was also installed on the field, conforming to international specifications, matching the ground of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, lighting poles and other facilities.

The cost of maintaining Tripoli Stadium reached 100 million dinars, according to previous press statements by the head of the Libyan Audit Bureau, Khaled Shakshak.

Libyans criticized the exorbitant costs spent on the reopening celebration of the stadium, which was only maintained, and hosting veteran players from abroad in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars, without taking into account the needs of citizens who today have no salaries, no fuel, no gas, and no security, in light of the crisis in the country. Al-Bayoudi added, “Today, Al-Dabaiba realizes that reality is more truthful than delusional trends, and with one voice, the sports fans repeated to him an imaginary, imaginary.”

He added, “After what happened in the Tripoli stadium and the direct reaction of the audience, and in the presence of Al-Dabaiba, who showed signs of shock on his face – and while all of Libya was following the event, the electronic flies and all those who benefit from the power of illusion and plunder set off at once, practicing their hobby of deception, misleading, and drumming. During this period, the majority of commercial banks in Libya suffer from a cash shortage crisis, as a large number of citizens line up every day in front of ATMs in the hope of receiving and disbursing their salaries, to fulfill their needs before the month of Ramadan.

The lack of liquidity in banks these days coincides with the rise in the price of the US dollar in the parallel market, which reached about 7.2 dinars per dollar, which affected the prices of goods in the markets.

Libya is witnessing an escalating political crisis in light of the presence of two governments in the country, one in the east of the country appointed by Parliament and headed by Osama Hammad, and another in the west led by Dabaiba, which emerged from political agreements sponsored by the United Nations, and refuses to hand over power except through elections.

The first presidential elections in the history of Libya were scheduled to be held on December 24, 2021, but political differences between the various parties to the Libyan crisis, as well as disagreements over the election law, prevented them from being held.
