Colombian President Gustavo Petro will travel to Paris to attend the opening of the Olympic Games and inaugurate the ‘Casa Colombia’, with which the country intends to promote tourism in this sporting celebration.
This was reported to EFE by sources from the Presidency, who added that the president will leave for Paris on Tuesday night to be present at the inauguration that will be held on next Friday 26th.
Petro will be accompanied by the Ministers of Sports, Luz Cristina López, and of Culture, Juan David Correa, as well as by the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency of the Republic (Dapre), Laura Sarabia; the president of ProColombia, Carmen Caballero, and several ambassadors.
Colombia will compete in these Olympic Games with the largest participation in history, 89 athletes in a delegation in which athletics, weightlifting, boxing and cycling are the ones that offer the country the most medal options with figures such as Flor Ruiz, Yenny Álvarez, Jenny Arias, Mariana Pajon and Kevin Quintero.
The Andean country will bring 18 more athletes to these Games than to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where it was represented by 71.
The delegation is composed of 52 women and 37 men and it will be the first time that the country will be represented by more women, who will participate in 18 disciplines: football, cycling, athletics, boxing, archery, weightlifting, wrestling, gymnastics, swimming, golf, equestrian, canoeing, fencing, sailing, tennis, triathlon, judo and skateboarding.
Colombia will debut in these Olympic Games in canoeing, with Manuela Gómez, and in BMX Freestyle, with Queen Saray Villegas.
