For several weeks now, the south of the country has been experiencing very low temperatures, with persistent heavy snowfall and very low temperature records. This situation has spread throughout the national territory, even reaching areas of northern Argentina.

This polar cold wave is notable for its intensity, but also for its persistence, according to meteorologist Leonardo De Benedictis on the Meteored website. The specialist also explained that the cold wave reached its most critical point last Tuesday in the center of the country.

The cold wave is taking hold in Argentina: which days will be the coldest?

“Extreme levels were recorded, even absolute records since data began to be kept for some specific locations in the Pampas region and the Argentine coast,” he added.

When does the polar wave end, according to meteorology experts?

The National Meteorological Service has issued a red alert for low temperatures for the provinces of Buenos Aires, La Pampa, Santa Fe, Córdoba, San Luis, Mendoza and San Juan. The rest of the provinces in the center of the country remain on orange alert.

Extremely low temperatures will continue for several days and will affect the entire national territory, but particularly the central zone, which will be the most affected by the low values.

According to Meteored’s ECMWF reference model, negative temperature anomalies are expected to continue throughout the week. Even up to next weekend, below-average levels will be observed, although a slight increase is expected for Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures slightly above average are expected to begin to be recorded starting next week. The situation will return to normal on Monday, July 15. Although very high temperatures are not expected during this rise in temperature, they are expected to be close to the typical averages for the time of year.
