WhatsApp now provides more context on the topics and members that make up group chats

MADRID, (Portaltic/EP) – WhatsApp has added a feature to group chats that allows users to view additional information about them when they add them to their member list, such as what their topic is, the date it was created, the person who added them or who created the group.

The platform has been working for months on features aimed at this type of conversation, where it is already possible to plan events and track attendance at them, as it announced a few days ago.

Meta has now announced that it is implementing a new contextual and explanatory feature “that will help users feel safer” in group chats, it said in a press release.

This is a feature that will allow users to know the context of a group “in more detail” when they have been added to one, such as who created it, when it was created, who was in charge of creating it or what the topic of that conversation is.

Knowing this information, therefore, these users will be able to decide whether to stay or leave the group, as well as review some of the security tools available to stay safe on the platform.

The firm believes that “this is especially useful” for those people who have just met someone or joined a group with other users and have not yet saved them among their contacts. In addition, this feature can help them confirm whether it is a group they know or want to be in.

Meta said that this update, which has already begun to be implemented and will be available to all users in the coming weeks, provides WhatsApp users with “another level” of security and protection.

For this reason, it is added to other functionalities with these purposes already present in the platform, such as silencing calls from strangers or controlling who can add users to groups.
