WhatsApp green, it’s not the most pleasant color ever. Or maybe you like it, but after all these years you’re tired. Then there is good news. Unfortunately that’s not the case on Android yet, but the iOS beta shows that you’ll soon be able to customize WhatsApp colors and maybe even chat bubbles. Interestingly, this is now being tested on iOS, because Apple is quite strict when it comes to speech bubble colors in their iMessages.
WhatsApp in other colors
WhatsApp doesn’t just let you customize the green look with all the colors of the rainbow: the options are white, pink, purple, blue and… green. You can already change those colors in the beta, but not yet in the chat bubbles. However, there are several elements that indicate that this will happen. However, this isn’t available to all beta testers yet, so the question is how early (and how serious) this test is.
In any case, it’s surprising that Android isn’t the first to make the change. Not just in light of iMessage, but also because Android is usually first when it comes to chat app changes. At least for some people it can be found in iOS v24.1.10.70. WhatsApp is not completely green at Apple: the details within the app are blue. Soon you will be able to choose for yourself, although it is not clear what exactly this applies to. In any case, WABetaInfo talks about the number of unread messages next to the contact’s name.
Will it remain in beta?
There are still many questions about these color differences. Will it stay with those colors, will it stay with iOS, will it even just stay in beta? WhatsApp itself hasn’t officially reported anything about it yet, so we’ll have to wait and see. In any case it would be great: we can already choose the wallpapers ourselves, and we are actually used to having other colorful elements together with the Material You design of Android.
