What will we play in 2024? Here are the most promising games

From the beginning of the year I present to you what we will be playing in the coming months. We have a list of exclusive titles for PlayStation and Xbox. We also looked at the most interesting Polish matches. Finally the time has come for the rest, that is, multiplatform titles. Of course, there will be many attractions here. But will it be as good as in the fantastic 2023? I have some doubts about it. However, let’s not get ahead of the facts.

The biggest and most important games of the year

I thought about starting with AAA games, but I ended up changing the tone of the title a bit. There are two reasons. First of all, there aren’t many of these big budget games. For now, the biggest production appears to be the eternally postponed Suicide Squad. This doesn’t change the fact that we’re talking about a game that arouses quite a bit of controversy. Fans of the Arkham series were probably counting on a single-player title, not something more of a game-as-a-service. I think until now almost no one knows what Kill the Justice League will be, which limits the hype greatly. The situation is completely different with another licensed game, namely Star Wars: Outlaws. While Ubisoft is still in a big hole, last year’s presentation generated considerable excitement. Studio Massive Entertainment is preparing what many gamers expect from Rocksteady: an action adventure in the popular universe with a strong emphasis on story.

Fans of good single-player games should also pay attention to the first mega-production of its kind from the Middle Kingdom. China’s Game Science Interactive is preparing the long-awaited Black Myth: Wukong, which will make another attempt to tell the story of the famous novel using the language of video games. Journey to the West. I think there’s a lot of potential here, even for game of the year. The only question is whether a developer with no experience in such large projects will be able to tackle the enormous challenge. Capcom probably won’t have this problem, as it has a chance to have another very successful year. This time, however, the success in the portfolio will be Dragon’s Dogma 2. The first part proved to be a successful title, and the sequel raises the bar even higher.

In this part of the text I have two more titles to talk about. Let’s start with a major attraction for fighting game fans. Street Fighter has dominated this genre in recent times, but Tekken 8 is trying to change that – the question is whether it will be possible to surpass the Capcom series, which had great success last year. There are no big doubts about Hades II. This brings me to the second reason why I’m writing about potentially bigger games and not specifically AAA games. Supergiant Games’ production may not be a blockbuster, but it arouses great interest among gamers. After the great success of the first part, the community’s expectations are enormous. A strong candidate for the title of best game of 2024.

Smaller games with huge potential

In 2024 we will also receive several games that are difficult to describe as AAA, but their quality cannot be denied. Let’s start with the next premiere, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Fans of the series received the announcement very negatively, but the closer it gets to the premiere, the greater the optimism. It’s not a dream AAA game, but you can see that Ubisoft is preparing a top-notch platformer. One they have already demonstrated in the past. I hope Little Nightmares III does as well. A proven formula, a unique atmosphere and, I hope, many emotions. The previous parts were very successful and I hope that the third part will follow suit.

Interesting things are also being created for fans of narrative games. Still Wakes the Deep from The Chinese Room looks particularly interesting, as it takes the action to a dangerous oil rig. Walking simulators aren’t having the best of times right now, but this title in particular looks particularly interesting. I also have high hopes for Annapurna Interactive, which has two amazing titles in its portfolio. The first is Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, which will take us into the cyberpunk world of the popular film. Although the gameplay is still a bit mysterious, this particular publisher has accustomed us to the fact that it does very well in narrative games. Annapurna’s second title is We Kill Monsters. At first glance, the production, reminiscent of Ashen, is an open-world role-playing game with advanced role-playing elements. It sounds very intriguing.

Remake is the word of the year… once again

Recreating old games from scratch is doing well in the industry and there is little indication that anything will change in this regard. Thanks to this, Gothic could be a success once again this year, at least in our country. I’m very curious to know how this combination between a very old game and a new studio will turn out. I don’t know if it will be a good product, but this premiere will definitely be worth watching. I personally have slightly higher expectations from another reheated cutlet from THQ Nordic, Alone in the Dark. The game was supposed to come out last year, but was ultimately delayed. May have a positive impact on the quality of the final product. The successful return of this cult brand certainly won’t hurt horror films.
