What will be the meeting points for the taxi strike in Bogotá?

The taxi drivers’ union has scheduled a new national strike for the July 23, 2024, in protest against competition from ride-hailing apps like Uber, Cabify, InDrive and Didi.

For his part, Hugo Ospina, spokesman for the taxi drivers, said that there has been no response “blunt” by the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá and the national government against illegal transportation.

Taxi drivers complained that transportation platforms affect their economy due to the lack of regulations that ensure fair competition. The union has asked the mayor Carlos Fernando Galán that the law be enforced by canceling license plates, the suspension of licenses and the imposition of sanctions on those who offer illegal services with private cars and motorcycles. However, they clarified that their objective is not to oppose digital platforms, but to demand fair regulation that guarantees equal competition.
