Azerbaijan ranks third in the former USSR in terms of the number of child deaths.
Publika.az reports that the Baku Research Institute has released information about this.
The information says that in 1980-2021, the number of deaths per 1000 newborns in Azerbaijan decreased from 109 to 18. But despite this, our country is still in the “high ranks” according to the number of child deaths.
Turkmenistan leads the countries with the highest number of child deaths. 41.4 out of every 1000 children born in this country die. Tajikistan comes in second place. In this country, 31.4 out of 1000 children change their lives prematurely. The most successful result in this area belongs to Estonia – only 2 out of every 1000 children die. The last three are completed by Belarus (2.7) and Latvia (3.3).
So, how to reduce the number of child deaths in our country?
Well-known doctor Abbas Bagirov clarified the question. In his statement to Bizim.Media, he said that according to international statistics, it can be noted that there are cases of death among newborns due to the influence of various factors:
“The number of postnatal deaths that occurred in previous periods when maternity assistance programs were not implemented was shown by a lower percentage. However, the fact that the number of infant deaths has not decreased sharply at the present time, when the course of pregnancy is more strictly controlled, and the material and technical base of the health care system has been improved, is of considerable concern.
There are enough opportunities to reduce the percentage of newborn babies in Azerbaijan. First of all, it should be noted that a number of gaps are observed in the physiological and psychoemotional development of modern youth in the pre-marriage period, which makes most of them dependent on medications.
When nutrition (alimentary) and natural (ecological) factors affect him, either perinatal (intrauterine) or postnatal (postnatal), the child’s development process is disrupted.”
Abbas Bagirov said that clinical, immunogenetic and biochemical indicators are also signs of disease:
“During pregnancy, it is considered necessary to conduct a number of examinations according to protocol rules. This includes setting up a number of infections and some blood tests required for pregnancy progress. Depending on the state of immunity, some transient immunogenetic indicators may be positive. In this case, there is a great need for our doctors to have a more professional approach to the patient.
As the most common treatment method we come across, plasmapheresis – the procedure called “blood washing” is preferred. For pregnant women, if the critical level indicators are not observed, plasmapheresis can lead to serious complications – intrauterine developmental defects – anomalies, immunosuppressive (lowering of the immune status) conditions.”
“These situations pose a serious threat to the health and vital condition of the babies born.
The public should know that during plasmapheresis, the components necessary for the development of the fetus are separated from the blood and thrown away, which causes intrauterine growth and nutrition problems.
As a result of repeated plasmapheresis procedures, protein fractions in the blood of pregnant women decrease, which is insufficient for the formation of functional systems of the fetus.
Also, this is one of the most important dangers for the life of the baby who will open his eyes to the world in the future. If progress is achieved in the adjustment of the mentioned factors and the professionalism of childbirth, a significant reduction in the number of child deaths can be observed. It is also necessary to minimize the use of medicinal substances during pregnancy,” said the doctor.
