What is the famous Soviet film that exposes the team that betrayed Azerbaijan? – 2024-07-15 10:15:03

Prominent figures of the Azerbaijan People’s Republic, established in 1918, were shown as negative heroes in Soviet Azerbaijan films in accordance with the demand of the time. However, our screenwriters and directors were able to show their positive aspects and their weight as historical figures, even if they were under the line.

In the feature film “Peasants” by Samad Mardanov in 1939, the period of the Republic is shown extensively for the first time. We can see the parliamentary session of the Republic, our tricolor flag, the soldiers of our national army and the image of Khosrov bey Sultanov played by Ismail Osmanli in this screenplay. This image was the first image of representatives of the Republic in Azerbaijani cinema.

The events take place in 1918 in the feature film “Twenties” directed by Ajdar Ibrahimov in 1966. Although the film reflects the activities of 26 Baku commissars, the viewer who watches the film carefully can see the images of Nuru Pasha and Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. The character of Shahbazov in the film is the prototype of Taghiyev. The Turkish team that came to Baku is the image of Nuru Pasha in the movie. In real life, as in the film, Nuru meets Pasha Taghiyev and stays at his house.

Although the name of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is not mentioned in the screenplay, the parties and leaders of the national government are shown as bitter enemies of socialist organizations. At the same time, the film “Twenties” is our first screen work in which the events of the March genocide are discussed. Even if it is not complete on stage, we hear the melody of the Azerbaijani national anthem.

In the film “Qatyr Mammad” filmed by Rasim Ojagov in 1974, we hear the expressions “Musavat”, “musavatchilar”, “general Khoyski”. Although the specific ADR is not mentioned, we see that this government is influential in Ganja governorate. Khatir Mammad, who fought against the republic, is shown as a hero. Ismayil Dagestanli created the character of Fatali Khan Khoyski in the film. Apart from Khan Khoyski, Aziz, an officer of the Republic played by Rasim Balayev, and Khudadat bey Rafibeyli, the Minister of Health of the Republic and later the governor of Ganja, are shown as the main negative roles. The representative of the Bolsheviks, Katir Mammad, is legendary. In this screenplay, the representatives of the national government presented in a negative light were actually the real mujahideen of Azerbaijan’s independence.

Among the films of Soviet Azerbaijan, the film that shows the period of the Republic in the most detailed way is the film “Wait for the signal from the sea”. In this screenplay, it is possible to see the ADR navy, the Counter-Revolutionary Organization, the poet Muhammad Hadi, whom Muhammad Amin Rasulzade especially appreciated, and the last meeting of the Republic.
