What has happened to the members of ‘Cubanito 20.02’?

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- The year 2002 saw the birth of one of the groups that would become a milestone in Cuban reggaeton and would get several generations dancing that still turn to these musicians.

“Kill Me” and “Ask Me” were two of the songs that launched them to stardom back then. And Haniel González Martínez (DJ Flipper), Javier Durán Webb (El Doctor) and José Ángel Sastre Pérez (El White), from Guanabacoa, knew how to make Cuban 20.02 a musical phenomenon.

Several of the members had been part of the group First baseand recorded Like you, a rap album. And in a different twist, on February 2, 2002 they created Cuban 20.02.

Little by little they began to make their way into the music scene until they became the public’s favourites, especially with songs like “Soy cubanito”, “Aida” and “Deja que te coja”.

With Caribbean melodies and catchy lyrics, they achieved notoriety inside and outside Cuba.

In a recent interview with the influencer Yoslin, José Ángel Sastre, said that the name of the group came about because people on the street started calling them that. “The public is the one who is right. It wasn’t even thought out or anything, it just happened.”

The disintegration of Cuban 20.02

After the release of the albums I’m Cuban (2003) y touch me (2006) the group began to disintegrate. Flipper received a job offer as a DJ in Italy and the years of distance and other reasons began to undermine the group’s popularity.

DJ Flipper returned to Cuba in 2016, but although they had released My World In 2012, the final dissolution of the group was decided.

The DJ returned to Italy and later moved to the US. The Doctor arrived later and collaborated with Baby Lores and Gorilla Zoe on the song “Sexy Party”.

Then, in 2017 it was reborn Cuban 20.02and they recorded the song “Pa’ los locos”, while José Ángel Sastre was in Cuba.

All three in the US

Years later, El White also settled in the United States. According to what he told Yoslin, he was one of those who decided that the group should take different paths.

“We were already here in the United States. I went to Ohio. And I have never said this. And the Doctor sent me a message and said: ‘Hey, go your way, we are going to go ours.’ And I took it seriously and decided to make my career and I tell you the truth, even if I end up in Miami singing in bars and taverns, I am not interested, but I am going to be singing,” she said.

Currently, he said, they have not continued their communication. “I saw on December 31 that I had to work and coincidentally he was the DJ there. We greeted each other normally. Each one in his place,” he added.

This year, the duo Gente de Zona announced that they were working on a collaboration with Ángel “El White.”

“We are preparing a surprise for you,” wrote Alexander Delgado on his social media at the beginning of the year.
