WeltWegWeiser welcomes increased funding for international volunteer work – 2024-04-12 04:58:29

Service center for international volunteer assignments continues to provide quality support for volunteers abroad

Vienna (OTS) An important step: The Ministry of Social Affairs has increased funding for international volunteer work by sponsoring organizations to 950 euros per person per month – this corresponds to an increase of a third. With the increase in funding, the sending organizations can compensate for price increases and provide quality support to the foreign volunteers as before. “The increase in funding means recognition of international volunteer work,” says Stephanie de la Barra, project manager at WeltWegWeiser. “It’s about ensuring sustainable and high-quality volunteer work and this requires financial resources.”

WeltWegWeiser demand implemented

WeltWegWeiser has long been campaigning for an increase in funding amounts: “We are very pleased that this demand has been implemented and that the sending organizations now have secure resources to prepare and send their volunteers. We would like to thank the Ministry of Social Affairs for the extremely good and appreciative cooperation,” says Stephanie de la Barra.

New perspectives through international volunteer work

Many international volunteers work in a social or educational project – usually in the global south. Others are active in memorial or peace services. Through this commitment, young people not only develop personally, but also learn new perspectives on the world. Many graduates of volunteer assignments do volunteer work in Austria after their return or decide on a career in the social sector. “By increasing funding, the Ministry of Social Affairs not only supports volunteers abroad, but at the same time actively strengthens and enriches Austrian society, on which the volunteers have an impact,” says Stephanie de la Barra.
