“There was no way to get to him other than to activate the Air Rescue Service helicopter Lazy with a climber and pick up the man using the undercarriage. Rescuers checked the man on the spot after picking him up, except for the lower temperature, he did not suffer any injuries and was able to stay at home in the care of his family,” rescue service spokeswoman Mária Svobodová told ČTK.

Broken trees in eastern Bohemia

The weather also added to the work of firefighters in eastern Bohemia. Strong thunderstorms today broke trees and branches in the Hradec Králové region. Because of this, the firemen had trips mainly to Náchodsk and Rychnovsk. In most places, units have already stopped pumping water.

“However, the firemen are still in Chernilov, where water and mud from the fields threaten part of the family houses,” they said in the early evening on the X network.

Flooded basements

Firefighters in central Bohemia went out to seven dozen incidents today due to the rain, most often pumping water or removing fallen trees. In the evening, they intervened mainly in Mníšek pod Brdy near Prahy, where water flooded, among other things, the underpass under the D4 highway, regional fire department spokesman Tomáš Bakalář told ČTK.

Water from the fields threatened the houses

In the Olomouc region, firefighters went to Velké Týnec in Olomouc on Sunday afternoon after a torrential storm. Water from the fields there flooded several streets on the outskirts of the village and threatened family homes. “We are installing sandbags in exposed places,” the fire department informed this early evening.

Storms will probably return to the Czech Republic on Monday afternoon. The warning issued today by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute ČHMÚ applies to most of the country, with the exception of the northwestern half of Bohemia.

The flood warning in the Pilsen region remains in effect until Monday noon. Domažlicko, the surroundings of Horšovské Týn and Stod are most at risk of rising water levels.
