For today, Monday, the Carnival holiday, a yellow alert for storms is in effect for 15 Argentine provinces. In some areas, such as Tucumán, the warning is orange, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN). In addition, extreme temperatures continue in much of the country.
The areas that are under alert due to heavy rains and possible electrical activity are Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, Chaco, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, La Rioja, Córdoba, San Juan, Mendoza, Buenos Aires and La Pampa.

“The area will be affected by storms, some locally strong. They may be accompanied by abundant rainfall in short periods, strong electrical activity, occasional hail and intense gusts. Accumulated precipitation values are estimated between 30 and 60 mm, being able to be overcome in a timely manner”, details the daily report of the SMN,

On the other hand, in Tucumán and part of Santiago del Estero and Salta, the alert rises to orange level. This means that “dangerous meteorological phenomena for society, life, property and the environment are expected,” the national body specifies.
“The area will be affected by storms, some locally strong or severe. They will be accompanied mainly by abundant rainfall in short periods, significant electrical activity, hail and intense gusts that can exceed 90 km/h.
Accumulated precipitation values between 60 and 100 mm are expected, and may be exceeded from time to time,” it is reported.
