The National Meteorological Service turned on its early warning system and notified 10 provinces. The warnings were not issued for a single reason or in a single area, but rather they apply to provinces throughout the country due to strong winds, storms and snowfall after pleasant and even summery weather in many of them.
In the mountain zone, the provinces under yellow alert are Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan, Mendoza and Nequén: the area under warning is the one included in the mountainous area of each province.
Weather alert: in which provinces are rain, cold and even snowfall expected?
In the northeastern area, those affected are Corrientes and Entre Ríos. The first almost in its entirety and the second, in the northeast area. On the other hand, a yellow alert is in effect for the southern half of Buenos Aires and the center and south of La Pampa. Finally, the alert applies to the entire northern half of the province of Santa Cruz.
Weather alert for strong winds
The SMN indicates that the Coast will be affected by winds from the northern sector with speeds between 30 and 50 km/h, and gusts that can reach 75 km/h.
In the center and south of the province of Buenos Aires; and in the west of La Pampa the winds will be from the west sector with speeds between 40 and 55 km/h with gusts that can reach 75km/h. The highest intensities are expected over the southeast of Buenos Aires during the afternoon.
In Nequén, the area will be affected by winds from the west with speeds between 30 and 50 km/h, and gusts that can exceed 80 km/h. Catamarca, La Rioja, San Juan and Mendoza will be affected by northwest winds with speeds between 50 and 70 km/h, with gusts that can exceed 100 km/h, especially in high mountain ranges.
Weather alert for snowfall
The area will be affected by snowfall, some locally intense. Accumulated snow may reach between 15 and 30 centimeters in some parts of Santa Cruz.
In areas of the Andes Mountains, snow can reach between 30 and 50 centimeters in height during the alert period, and may locally be higher. In the lower areas, precipitation could occur in the form of rain. The situation will be accompanied by intense winds from the western sector, with a possible reduction in visibility due to snow blown up by the wind.
Weather alert for storms and hail
The south of Buenos Aires will be affected by storms, some locally strong. They may be accompanied by intense gusts, strong electrical activity, occasional hail falls and, fundamentally, abundant falls of water in short periods.
Accumulated precipitation values are estimated between 30 and 60 mm, which may be exceeded occasionally.
