In a new letter, Jadue stated: “Rest assured that neither preventive detention nor vacancy will be able to stop us” and assured that he had “the peace of mind that Recoleta will continue to push back the fence of what is possible and show that it is possible to govern for the majority and not only for the privileged as always.” The leader of the Communist Party indicated that “CChile is experiencing a crisis of legitimacy in all its institutions and our people are not naive. They know how to distinguish the differences in treatment, the injustices and the privileges that the owners of power have, between those at the top and those at the bottom.”

“Comrades,

Friends and friends

As in every letter, I would like to begin by thanking you for the expressions of affection and fraternity that you send me every day. The solidarity expressed at national and international level renews every day the strength that free peoples have always taught me.

A few days ago I received a visit from my fellow Councillors of the Recoleta commune, who conveyed to me their commitment to continue working tirelessly for the people of Recoleta, as the 45 days that would lead to the vacancy of my responsibility as Mayor were approaching. Responsibility handed over by the sovereign vote of the people of Recoleta and unjustly snatched away by the prosecution through a biased and tendentious investigation that only aims to destroy all the progress achieved in these 12 years of tireless work.

However, I am confident and certain that they will not succeed and that on October 27 we will once again defeat all those who defend this model of abuse and inequality. They have not defeated us and they will not.

I feel proud and grateful for the trust that the people of Recoleta have placed in me and very happy to have responded with important advances in social justice and in public policies aimed at guaranteeing social rights such as health, education, housing, culture and sport.

Yes, they can temporarily deprive me of my freedom, but nothing will erase the significance that popular pharmacies and opticians, popular bookstores, open schools and the Open University have for our community and for a large part of the country. No one will be able to erase the impact of popular real estate and our housing and land policies, our environmental policies and all the advances in gender equality.

These 12 years have been beautiful and I will treasure them forever with you and I have the peace of mind that Recoleta will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible and show that it is possible to govern for the majority and not just for the privileged as always.

I will forever be grateful to the residents of Recoleta for their trust, affection and for allowing me to lead a democratic and transformative process. History is ours and the truth will come to light to destroy all investigative bias of the prosecution and the obsequiousness of some members of the judicial system. Rest assured that neither preventive detention nor vacancy will be able to stop us. For this reason, I ask all those who feel part of this project to continue working day by day to continue transforming Chile from the base and to make the lives of all Chileans more just.

Chile is experiencing a crisis of legitimacy in all its institutions and our people are not naive. They know how to distinguish the differences in treatment, the injustices and the privileges enjoyed by those in power, between those at the top and those at the bottom.

I see with sadness the security crisis we are experiencing and how we continue to rely on the same policies that have failed for decades. Only with more justice and more territorial equity, only with institutions that really work, that are truly professional and depoliticized, will we be able to move forward, but if we continue doing the same thing, we will undoubtedly continue to have the same results.

We must dream again about changing everything that needs to be changed. We must stand up again and not let ourselves be fooled. Chile deserves much more and can do much more, all that is needed is for the people to be convinced of this and decide. This has to change.
