We, the Ulama of West Sumatra, are Proud of Your Hijab

PADANG – Chairman of the Ulema Council West Sumatra Gusrizal Gazahar asked Maulia Permata Putri, a representative from West Sumatra, to remain steadfast after failing to become a tray bearer at the commemoration of the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in the National Capital (IKN), Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Gusrizal made a statement via flyers and the TikTok social media account @buyadatuak73, where your position is in that line, still proud because you maintain wearing the hijab.

“Wherever your position is in the ranks, we, the ulama of West Sumatra, are still proud of you with your hijab,” said Gusrizal in the video as uploaded 17 hours ago.

Buya continued, don’t be discouraged, go back to West Sumatra proud with your victory. “Don’t be discouraged, son. Go home with your pride and your victory to defend your private parts,” he said in a 55-second video.

Gusrizal also said that removing the hijab would disappoint the ulama in West Sumatra, especially in the Minang region.

“It breaks our hearts, the scholars of Ranah Minang, to see ignorant hands remove your hijab that has been covering your private parts for decades,” he said.

After completing his duties, Buya, Gusrizal’s nickname, asked Maulia to go home. “After completing your duties, go home, son, with faith and steadfastness, we always support you,” he said.
