Fikri/Daniel successfully secured positive results in the last 16 round Japan Open 2024 over Taiwanese representatives, Fang-Chih Lee/Fang-Jen Lee. They won two straight games in 36 minutes with a score of 21-16 and 21-12.
After a tight fight, Fikri/Daniel assessed that Fang/Fang did indeed perform well. However, they had studied their opponent’s game so they could win.
“I am grateful to have won and advanced to the last 8. The match was not easy either. It must be admitted that the opponent also played well,” said Daniel as reported by the PBSI release, Thursday (22/8/2024).
“However, I had previously studied the opponent’s game. That way, when we were on the field we were more prepared so we could win the match,” he added.
The positive result brought Fikri/Daniel to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Japan Open. This achievement is certainly quite impressive considering that this is their debut tournament as a pair.
Fikri/Daniel also considered their game to be more cohesive when playing the round of 16 today. In addition, they are also more solid in defense.
“From the defensive side, we also feel more cohesive. We are more solid. Also supported by the heavier shuttlecock character here, so it is more comfortable to play defensively,” explained Daniel.
“Our game in the middle of the field also feels more cohesive. Communication in the field is also getting better,” continued Fikri.
In the quarter-finals of the Super 750 tournament, Fikri/Daniel will meet Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi from China. The match will be held on Friday (23/8/2024).
