Vienna (OTS) – “We are very proud that Austria is one of the most attractive university countries and is particularly popular with international students. But this also brings with it an imbalance that can lead to disadvantages in domestic healthcare, especially in the medical sector. Many of the doctors trained here leave return to their home countries after their studies instead of working in Austria. Even though the Austrian Health Insurance Fund has already taken a sensible step here and is awarding medical scholarships in which the scholarship holders commit to five years of work in the health insurance fund in return, further innovative solutions are needed to ensure this “We want more doctors to stay in Austria. I therefore very much welcome Federal Minister Polaschek’s initiative, which has raised the issue to the European level. If doctors are being trained at our universities, we should do everything we can to keep them here,” said Moritz Mitterer, Chairman of the employer curia in the ÖGK general meeting and federal managing director of the Economic Association.
