In an effort to address structural challenges in food security, productive inclusion and access to water and energy in communities Wayúu of Manaure and Uribiathe Misión La Guajira project has marked a significant milestone with the delivery of water and food solutions to 487 families, benefiting around 2,000 people in total.
This historic meeting, held in the municipality of Manaure, had the prominent presence of the President of the RepublicGustavo Petro, as well as business leaders and senior government officials. The public-private partnership behind Misión La Guajira, led by Grupo Aval, Promigas and other key actors, has demonstrated a collaborative approach to addressing the critical needs of these communities.
The water solutions implemented encompass a variety of innovative and sustainable approaches. A water treatment plant powered by a photovoltaic system was installed to benefit 113 families, while 120-meter-deep wells, also assisted by solar energy, were drilled to provide access to water for 102 homes. In addition, an existing well was repaired, which will benefit 26 additional homes. These interventions are especially significant considering that the municipality of Manaure has 15% water coverage, highlighting the importance of these solutions to improve the quality of life of the communities..
The DPS RESA program has also started the food security pathway in these communities, providing a comprehensive approach to addressing basic food and nutrition needs.
María Lorena Gutiérrez, president of Grupo Aval, expressed his satisfaction with the progress achieved, highlighting the company’s commitment to the sustainable development and well-being of La Guajira. This initiative marks a significant step towards the shared goal of improving living conditions in the region and reflects the tangible impact that effective collaboration between the public and private sectors can achieve.
