Water discharge from India, high flood in Sutlej River

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the national agency for dealing with natural disasters in Pakistan, has warned that due to the release of water by India, there is a high level of flood in the Sutlej River at Ganda Singhwala.

According to NDMA, there is a possibility of high level flood in Sutlej river from 6 o’clock in the morning of 19th August at head Sulaimanki, while high level flood is likely to occur in Sutlej river at Islam from 21st August.

The NDMA has issued instructions to the provincial department PDMA to ensure early warning to the population of Ganda Singhwala, Sulaimanki and Islam lowlands on Sutlej River and evacuation of vulnerable people.

It was further said that traffic towards sensitive areas should be systematically monitored, machinery should be kept ready to deal with emergency situations and arrangements should be made for the evacuation of people living in low-lying areas.

According to the official news agency Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), a PDMA spokesman said on Saturday that there is a very high level of flood at Ganda Singhwala in Sutlej River where the water level is 23 feet high. And the flow has been recorded as 278 thousand cusecs.

According to the spokesman, the water level has risen 12 feet at Talwar post, the water level at Fateh Muhammad post is 15 feet, while there is a low level flood at Head Sulaimanki, from where 80,000 cusecs of water has been released. is passing

He said that there is a possibility of high-level flooding at Head Islam during the next 48 hours, while the flood situation in Sutlej River depends on the flow in Harike and Ferozepur.

There have been reports of water being released from India on a daily basis till August 21.

Spokesperson PDMA said that the settlements very close to Sutlej river are being evacuated. Adjacent district administrations are being provided with food, shelters, medicines, boats and other essential items while all institutions are on high alert.
