JAKARTA – PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk. accelerate the construction of the Temef Dam in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). Physically Temef Dam achieved 98% progress. In this way, the people of NTT, especially the East Central South District, will immediately benefit from the presence of the Temef Dam.

The Company’s SVP Corporate Secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita, explained that the Temef Dam is located in South Central Timor Regency which includes three villages in two sub-districts, namely Oenino Village and Pane Utara Village, Oenino District and Konbaki Village, Polen District.

“Temef Dam is the only largest dam in NTT Province which has a length of 550 meters and
55 meters high and occupies an area of ​​45 hectares which can hold up to 45 million cubic meters of water,
” explained Ermy, in Jakarta, Friday (31/5/2024).

Temef Dam is used to supply irrigation for 4,500 ha of rice fields, as raw water with a water flow of 131 liters/second for 28,000 families, flood control with flood reduction of up to 15% and a 2×1.0 MW micro-hydro power plant. The Temef Dam began construction in 2018.

Waskita Karya worked on Package I which had been completed at that time consisting of preparatory work, circumvention building work, hydromechanical work and extraction building work. The budget value for Package I reached IDR 934 billion and construction was completed faster than the target set in 2023.

Next, Waskita Karya continued construction of the dam in package four with a budget of IDR 468 billion. A number of works carried out in package four are main dam embankments, hydromechanical related works, intake building work and facility building work.

Through the Directorate General of Water Resources of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Waskita Karya is trusted to build a number of dams in Indonesia. Dams whose work has been completed include Karian Dam, Banten, Tapin Dam, South Kalimantan, Leuwikeris Dam, West Java, Way Sekampung Dam and Margatiga Dam, Lampung.

“With a number of experiences in building water resources infrastructure, Waskita Karya has built 30 buildings consisting of dams, irrigation, flood control and coastal protection,” said Ermy.

As for the progress of the dams that Waskita Karya is currently working on, there are currently 5 work packages including the Temef Dam and it is targeted to be completed in 2024, namely, the Jlantah Karanganyar Dam, Central Java has reached 85%, the Rukoh Aceh Dam has reached 79%, the Bener Purworejo Dam, Central Java has reached 48%. % and the Jragung Dam Package 1 Semarang, Central Java reached 42%.

The construction of this dam was also accompanied by the modernization of irrigation, through the development of innovation and irrigation management that relies on water supplies from the dam. This is to increase the productivity of the agricultural sector in the region.

“The benefits of dams are not only limited to increasing water and food security nationally, but also as developing tourism areas. Of course this can help the local government and the state in increasing local economic growth and increasing community involvement as MSME business actors,” concluded Ermy.
