Was the US First Lady’s letter to Putin written by artificial intelligence?

At the summit in Alaska, US President Donald Trump personally gave a letter from his wife and First Lady Melania Trump to Vladimir Putin. The letter appealed to the Russian president to restore the ‘smiles’ of Ukrainian children trapped in years of war.

According to a First Post report, many said the letter was ‘vague’ and ‘doesn’t say much’, raising suspicions that the first lady may have been drafted by artificial intelligence.

During the meeting, Trump handed Putin a handwritten ‘letter’ from first lady Melania Trump, asking the Russian leader to bring back the ‘smile’ of Ukrainian children lost during more than three years of war.

The letter immediately became the center of attention. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Melania for highlighting the plight of children. But when a copy of the letter started circulating online, many described it as ‘ambiguous’ and questioned whether it was actually written by the first lady herself or was it generated by artificial intelligence.

What was in the letter?

According to Fox News, when Donald Trump presented the letter at the Alaska summit, Vladimir Putin decided to read it aloud to the American and Russian delegations.

The letter begins as follows: ‘Dear President Putin. Every child has the same silent dream in his heart, whether he is born in a remote rural area of ​​a country or in the center of a magnificent city. They dream of love, possibilities and protection from danger.

‘Mr Putin, you alone can bring back their laughter. In protecting the innocence of these children you will not only be serving Russia — you will be serving humanity itself.’

The letter concluded: ‘Such a bold idea is devoid of all human division, and you, Mr. Putin, are able to implement that vision today with the stroke of a pen. Its time has come.’

Was this letter written by AI?

As soon as Melania Trump shared the letter on her official Instagram, online users started speculating if it was actually written by artificial intelligence.

While there has so far been no official response from the White House, critics pointed out that the letter was unclear about which ‘children’ she was referring to, or what she wanted Putin to do.

Although the message indicated he was referring to Ukrainian children, US magazine Mother Jones said it did not explicitly mention the suffering they suffered after Russia invaded in February 2022.

Democratic strategist Keith Edwards also reacted bluntly in a post, saying the letter “doesn’t say much” and doubted it “might have been written by AI.”

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha said in a post on social media that Zelensky asked Trump to thank the first lady during a conversation on Saturday after the summit.

Kiev has long accused Moscow of abducting thousands of children during the war and transferring them to Russia or the occupied territories — calling it a war crime.

At least 200 children were moved in the first year, according to a United Nations report, while independent estimates put the number much higher: Yale University researchers said more than 35,000, and Ukraine’s rights commissioner claimed more than 19,500 — of whom only about 1,000 have returned.

In 2023, the International Criminal Court also issued arrest warrants for Vladimir Putin and Russia’s Children’s Commissioner Maria Luova-Belova in connection with the kidnapping.

However, all these things were nowhere mentioned in Melania’s so-called letter. Instead, it had an ambiguous tone for many, even though Trump himself told reporters last month that his wife was deeply troubled by the war.
