Warning Penalty for Healthcare Workers Who Striked a Work Action at Fatsa State Hospital

(ANKARA) – Health workers who went on strike at Fatsa State Hospital upon the call of the General Health-Labor Union were given a warning. General Health-Labor Union President Derya Uğur, speaking to ANKA News Agency, said, “We will have drawn attention very well by the administrators who are representatives of the political power, that our members who complied with our decision to go on strike were given a warning. It should not be forgotten that when administrators give such penalties and ensure that we have them annulled through the courts, they cause damage to the state.”

Healthcare workers have carried out various actions to draw attention to violence in healthcare. An administrative investigation has been launched into healthcare workers who went on strike in the Fatsa district of Ordu upon the call of the General Health-Labour Union. Within the scope of this investigation, healthcare workers were given a “warning” penalty.

Derya Uğur, General Health-Labor Union President, evaluated the “warning” penalty given to health workers to ANKA News Agency. Uğur spoke as follows:

“Violence in healthcare is the result of the policies of the 22-year political power that commercialize healthcare and discredit healthcare workers under the name of the health transformation program. Violence in healthcare is the result of wrong policies because deterrent measures were not taken and effective and applicable health violence law was not implemented. Violence in healthcare continues to increase every passing day. As the General Health Labor Union, we decided to go on strike at the Fatsa State Hospital in Ordu to reject the policies that discredit healthcare workers, to draw attention to violence in healthcare and to implement the policies of the administrators that will prevent violence in healthcare.

We will have drawn great attention from the administrators, who are representatives of the political power, that our members who complied with our decision to go on strike were given a warning. However, those administrators should not forget that if measures are not taken to prevent violence in healthcare throughout the country, there is a possibility that they too may be subjected to violence when they leave their seats tomorrow. At that time, Genel Sağlık İş will be with them again, and our members will be with them again. It should also be well known that our union has previously had all the penalties given after our decisions to go on strike annulled through the courts. It should not be forgotten that when administrators give such penalties and ensure that we have them annulled through the courts, they cause damage to the state.
