Want your name emblazoned on a Moon Rover? Follow this method

SPACE — The US Space Agency (NASA) is offering you the opportunity to put your name on the VIPER lunar rover. The VIPER rover is scheduled to launch on a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket in late 2024.

VIPER stands for “Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover”. This rover will search for frozen water and other resources around the Moon’s south pole. The location is a general area where NASA plans to establish one or more manned bases, through the Artemis program.

“With VIPER we will study and explore parts of the lunar surface that have never been reached before. With this campaign we invite the world to be part of this risky but rewarding journey,” said Nicola Fox, associate administrator of NASA’s Science Mission. Management, in a statement, reported by Space.

The way to put your name on this rover is very simple. You can visit NASA’s website at and follow the instructions. You have until March 15th to register your name.

VIPER is part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. The goal of the program is to send the agency’s instruments and equipment to the Moon using private robotic landers.

CLPS is designed to help clear the way for Artemis astronauts, who are expected to land near the Moon’s south pole for the first time in late 2025 or 2026.
