When she went to UPA Samambaia, the doctor prescribed a tranquilizer, a corticosteroid and an anti-allergy drug. However, the pain did not go away.

Wilker returned home, saw the spiders and identified the species. “There was more than one and I saw it was the brown spider type. I went back to UPA because I still felt a lot of pain. There was throbbing and a strong burning sensation from the inside out,” he says.

Upon returning to UPA, he was seen by a second doctor, who prescribed an antibiotic, an anti-inflammatory and a painkiller.. “I asked for an ointment because I was in a lot of pain and he said that it would hurt a lot, that there was nothing that could be done and he prescribed me an injection of anti-inflammatory and painkiller to be given while I was still in hospital.”

I came home still very sore. I left my hand in a bucket of ice to try to ease the burning sensation. I bought some medicines, but none of them reduced the pain.

On December 29, Wilker went to UPA Central and was transferred to UPA Quietude, where he received the serum. “My finger was already purple. The nurse asked me if I had never been to the doctor before and I said yes, twice. She asked me if they hadn’t warned me [o caso] and I said no. So she ran off to do the procedures.”
