Radev: It will be clear whether VMRO-DPMNE will work for European integration
Bulgarian President Rumen Radev commented that very soon it will be clear whether the newly elected President of the Republic of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska and the VMRO-DPMNE party will work for the European perspective of Skopje.
“I have always supported the European integration of the RSM, but in compliance with the principles of good neighborliness and, above all, the Copenhagen criteria for membership. And this would mean a change in the constitution and respect for the rights of the Macedonian Bulgarians. Refusal of the language of hatred, which was rampant in this election campaign, revision of textbooks, respect and protection of the Bulgarian cultural and historical heritage in this country”. Radev pointed out.
Changes to the constitution
Before the vote, Albanian parties agreed not to support a government that would not support changes to the constitution.
With them, the Bulgarians should also be included in the basic law. This was laid down in the negotiation framework of North Macedonia and is a condition for starting real negotiations for EU membership.
VMRO-DPMNE, however, blocked the changes in the previous parliament and developed a powerful. anti-Bulgarian campaign.
Now the issue is back on the agenda.
