On February 6, Ambassadors and Heads of Delegations of ASEAN countries in New York had a meeting with Mr. Alounkeo Kittikhoun, former Minister of the Lao Prime Minister’s Office and Special Envoy of ASEAN to Myanmar to inform, exchange and promote. push measures on the Myanmar situation.

During the exchange, ASEAN countries all welcomed the efforts of the ASEAN Special Envoy on the Myanmar issue, affirming that they will continue to cooperate and support the Special Envoy to successfully complete his tasks, contributing to maintaining peace and stability in Southeast Asia.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Representative Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized that Vietnam supports and highly appreciates Laos in the role of ASEAN Chairman and individual Special Envoy. ASEAN in promoting dialogue and finding peaceful and sustainable solutions, as well as ASEAN’s efforts on humanitarian relief in Myanmar.

The Ambassador affirmed that relevant parties in Myanmar must fully and effectively implement the 5-point consensus approved by ASEAN, of which the highest priority is ending violence and ensuring humanitarian access for all. people, creating a favorable environment to promote inclusive dialogue and reconciliation.

The international community needs to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN and United Nations agencies in coordinating humanitarian relief activities, ensuring that relief goods reach people in difficulty, especially women and children.

During this process, the international community needs to ensure respect for Myanmar’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and unity.

The position of ASEAN Special Envoy to Myanmar was established on the basis of the 5-point consensus approved by ASEAN on April 24, 2021.
