Billionaire Elon Musk said he plans to spend about $45 million a month to support Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday.
Musk’s donations will go to a political group called America PAC, focused on promoting voter registration, early voting and mail-in voting among residents of swing states ahead of the November election, the paper reported.
Musk is one of the new fund’s biggest backers, which also include Palantir co-founder Joe Lonsdale, former U.S. ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and cryptocurrency investors Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.
The Tesla founder officially endorsed Trump on Saturday after the former president survived an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
With a net worth estimated at around $250 billion, Musk has been increasingly close to Trump during the 2024 election race.
They met in March at a donors’ breakfast at billionaire Nelson Peltz’s Florida home.
Although individual campaign donations in the United States are limited to $3,300 per person, the campaign finance system allows mega-donors to contribute to funds known as political action committees, or “PACs,” that support candidates.
